Word from our Skills Development Director

It is truly humbling to be a part of this great team of humanitarian people at Champions of Hope Foundation with an objective to help the vulnerable; in my docket of work I put emphasis on vulnerable women.

Because I am blessed with a number of vocational skills that I am willing to share with the community most especially young mothers, I am the Head of Skills Development at Champions of Hope Foundation. This kind of program pays attention to:

  • Single mothers,
  • Widowed young mothers,
  • Teenage mothers more so those that drop out of school.

Passion for such groups of people drives me to keep helping the less fortunate in society so as to uplift their livelihoods. If well facilitated, I believe Skills development is one of those processes and programs that identifies individual skill gaps, and helps in developing them. I have seen such skills determine the ability of women to execute their plans with success by earning a living.

Some of the skills we teach at Champions of Hope include:

  1. Weaving,
  2. Tie & dye,
  3. Sewing,
  4. Crocheting,
  5. Craft making,
  6. And some bit of baking.

With these, we are able to encourage vulnerable women embrace and use every available opportunity to learn a skill. Some of the women under us are cannot afford the raw materials so we have to provide. We donot leave at that but we also strive to help them get exposure and market for their finished products.

To bring this more closer to the community we started small scale skills development – more of cotttage based. This has helped empower vulnerable women in skills like:

  • Liquid Soap making &
  • Candle making.

May women have been able to beat inequality and fight poverty amongst the vulnerable women. With the improved standards of living, skills development makes a lot of economic sense.

As an organization still at infancy growth, I believe we will be able to do and achieve more as more sponsors come on board to aid in a number of areas. This will help facilitate more activities and expand our operations.

It is a humbling privilege to serve and know that at the end of the day you are creating impact in the community. Like Martin Luther King said: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Slowly by slowly we shall get there.
